STANDARDIZED TESTS: You will be required to take one or more of the following standardized tests to gain admission to a U.S. university.

Tests of English Language Proficiency:

  1. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): TOEFL is an admissions requirement at U.S. institutions for applicants whose native language is not English.

  1. GRE General Test (Graduate Records Examination): The GRE is required by most U.S. graduate schools and /or departments for candidates applying in the fields of science, technology, or engineering. Generally, the quantitative section of the exam is weighed heavily in the sciences.
  1. GRE Subject Test is only offered on a limited basis in paper-based format. The GRE Subject Tests are required for the following fields:

          • Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology

          • Biology

          • Chemistry

          • Computer Science

          • Mathematics

          • Physics

General GRE and GRE Subject exams will be required for final university admissions

* Applicants should submit a recent TOEFL score report (or equivalent) of of 79 to 80 IBT minimum (550 PBT); recommend a 100 IBT (600 PBT) or above (or equivalent: IELTS, Report on Proficiency in English or other English language proficiency exam).

** Official TOEFL scores include paper-based test, computer-based test results or internet-based test results.  Nominees do not have to sit for the IBT exam. The score just needs to be no more than two years old.

*** The Selection Committee will need the official score reports at the point of nomination. Not all students may have taken the test. If the applicant cannot submit a score at the point of application and/or selection due to testing access issues, then the application should be forwarded along with an 'unofficial' language proficiency measure. This might include an institutional TOELF; IELTS, TELP score or Report on Proficiency in English

**** The Fulbright Office in Kyiv will make all necessary arrangements and cover all costs of the TOEFL and the GRE testing for selected candidates.

*****GRE General Exam score report will be required as quickly as possible for selected candidates as this exam is required at most U.S. universities. A candidate should achieve a quantitative score of 700 or above.

******Additionally, a GRE Subject Exam score report will be needed for candidates in the following fields of study: Biology; Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Mathematics; and Physics.  The Subject Exams are given at paper-based test centers only three times a year in November, December, and April.  The selected candidates should be registered for the November exam if possible.
