Using Museums as Strategic Non-Formal Education Partners

Using Museums as Strategic Non-Formal Education Partners

The Fulbright Program in Ukraine is pleased to invite you to an open lecture "Using Museums as Strategic Non-Formal Education Partners " by U.S. Fulbright Specialist 2015 Shauna Tonkin, to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, 6:00 p.m., at the Fulbright Office (20 Esplanadna Street, Suite 904, M "Palats Sportu", Kyiv).

Dr. Tonkin will discuss the strategic role of museums in supporting education, and consider models of museums as education spaces for people of all ages.

Education is a key component for the development of the whole person, and quality education is essential for the well-being of our communities and nations.  In many circumstances, schools cannot address all the learning needs of students.  Increasingly, schools are looking to community partners to help provide more authentic learning experiences that complement the required curriculum.

Museums can help bridge these gaps as non-formal education partners.  Because they have unique resources that may not be available to other organizations, museum programs can focus on aspects of core subjects that expand and deepen knowledge and understanding.

Shauna Tonkin, Ph.D., is currently serving as a Fulbright Specialist at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.  She is the Director of Education for Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor, located in Hawaii.  Dr. Tonkin has created innovative programs for formal and non-formal education organizations, and consults on leadership and organizational development.

The lecture will be presented in English.

Please register online to attend the lecture.
