Director for the Kyiv American Center

The Institute of International Education seeks a Director for the Kyiv American Center

Summary:  IIE has been contracted by the Embassy to hire a Director for the American Center who will help with the setup and opening of the center. The Center is expected to serve as a resource to provide residents of Ukraine with access to a full range of programming to help foster mutual understanding between the US and Ukraine.The Director will plan and implement programming to appeal to diverse Ukrainian audiences, develop and implement customer service standards and provide information about resources and programs that are available. The Director will be responsible for managing a variety of functions such as: the advising center for Ukrainian students seeking a US education; an information center where Ukrainians can learn about USG programs; promoting an understanding of American culture, society, traditions, etc.; English language teaching; showcasing technology and associated large events; and other general training/resource activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1)      Set up American Center
2)      Plan and implement programming in accordance with Embassy requirements.
3)      Provide information about US government programs


  • A bachelor's degree required.
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible experience preferably related to managing: the implementation of education, cultural and/or training programs; teams of people; and budgets of substantial size.
  • A minimum of 2 years of overseas work experience required, 3-5 years preferred.
  • Familiarity with the education systems in Ukraine.
  • A substantial and demonstrated track record for effectively managing and building the capacity of multi-cultural staff to effectively achieve targeted organizational and programmatic objectives.

Skills Required:

  • Professional fluency in Ukrainian and/or Russian required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and management experience and the ability to motivate and direct a team, including geographically distant staff.
  • Track record for working effectively with range of stakeholders (e.g., national government agencies, educational institutions, the private sector, etc.) in the Ukrainian context.
  • Proven track record for providing effective budgetary and financial management oversight, including the direct supervision of financial staff.
  • Strong analytical, information-gathering, and presentation skills, as well as working knowledge of information and communication technologies (ICT).
  • Demonstrated event planning and management experience.
  • Flexibility to travel within country and internationally (approximately 20%).
