FULBRIGHT UKRAINE

William Roba

American Studies
Drohobych State Pedagogical University
Fulbright Scholar Program, Spring 2008

I would say that there are three accomplishments to mention which I would mention about my spring professorship. First, my wife and I donated almost 100 books consisting primarily of American novels to the Drohobych University Library to further the academic area of American Studies. Second, Sylvia and I started Thursday afternoon conversation hours, where any and all students interested in speaking English could attend without any agenda, or teachers present. One of the students who attended these sessions represented Drohobych University in an English-speaking contest held in Zhytomyr, and placed 7th in a field of 100 participants. Third, I was interviewed by the Lviv television station, which was included as part of a half hour feature on 20 April 2008, and allowed me to talk about Drohobych University and the Fulbright Program.

Enclosed is an article “A Guest from the States,” which appeared in the student newspaper Frankivets on March 2, 2008.
