FULBRIGHT UKRAINE

Hanna Vershynina

Hanna Vershynina was born 10 April 1984 in Chernihiv.
Since early childhood she was fond of art and painting, and the application of these ideas in life.
She studied at the Art School in Chernihiv where she became interested in the art of textiles.  In 2002 she entered the M. Boychuk Kyiv State Institute of Crafts and Design to study textile arts under the tutelage of Marta Bazak.

In 2007 Ms. Vershynina joined the youth section of the Ukrainian Artists Organization.  She participated in all-Ukrainian exhibitions (Kyiv, Chernihiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv); the international exhibition of mini-textiles (Kherson); the international exhibition "Embracing our differences 2009" in Florida, USA.  Hanna works in different weaving techniques: plain, pile, texture. Along with wool threads she uses other materials, such as grass stalks, sisal.

"I'm attracted by nature motives: plants, trees, birds, mountains, woods, changes in nature... The colors of nature are very rich and diverse.  Color plays a very important part in making a tapestry.  Colors, just like people, change, often compete with each other, sometimes contrast, sometimes harmonize.  In my works, I mostly employ a subdued color spectrum.  I love to unite cool, gray-blue colors with ochre."
